A bioregion is a geographical area defined not by political or national borders but by its natural ecosystem, where the prosperity of people, biodiversity, and natural resources are interdependent. It represents a place we can call home, rooted in the principles of circularity and local interdependence.

Traditionally, local communities embodied circularity through simple transformations and local knowledge, utilizing and producing everything with minimal waste. In contrast, the linear industrial system generates waste throughout its value chains. Recognizing the need for more sustainable systems and production, the Bioregion Institute works with actors in our bioregion to map value chains, aiming to reduce and add value to waste streams by developing novel materials and products and innovate circular solutions. Through collaboration, we foster the transformation to more circular and sustainable territories.

This approach addresses the challenge of shaping more sustainable systems by looking to our bioregions as key focal points for holistic and environmentally conscious development.
