Challenges

Feddie Ocean Distillery

Objective

Develop biodegradable materials and products using draff, a by-product of whisky production, with the goal of reducing waste and creating sustainable alternatives.

Material

Draff, the residual husks after fermentation of the grain used in brewing, primarily comprises grain husks, heavy soluble carbohydrates, and some raw proteins.

Goals

Feddie Ocean Distillery invites innovators, both individuals and businesses, to propose ideas for new biodegradable materials and products that leverage draff as a key ingredient. The goal is to:

  • Use draff to create sustainable materials or products

  • Reduce environmental impact by repurposing draff instead of traditional disposal methods

  • Address the challenge of the increase of whiskey production by scaling up the use of draff

About

Feddie Ocean Distillery, the sole organic whisky distillery in Norway, produces a range of spirits, including Nine Sisters gin and akevitt. Committed to environmental responsibility, they hold organic certification for all their spirits and actively work to minimize their local and global environmental footprint.
