Natural Building Blocks

ViteMeir and Bioregion Institute are developing a permanent, interactive flagship installation — a learning landscape — that helps the public understand sustainable material use and healthy alternatives to plastics and extractive materials.

The Natural Building Blocks project explores bio-based and biodegradable building materials, the link between natural resources and material use, and what happens when a key element is removed from the cycle.

The project was funded through a joint application by ViteMeir and Bioregion Institute. ViteMeir leads the project and the pedagogical content, while Bioregion Institute is responsible for the concept, design, production, and the building and installation of the landscape. The result is a cohesive environment of connected installations where visitors see, touch, test and build — not just read. The work runs in six phases: knowledge base, concept, design, drawings, production and assembly.

The timeline runs from autumn 2026 to completed installation in autumn 2027, with reviews and deliverables at agreed milestones. The outcome is a fully tested learning landscape, ready for use, with external elements integrated into a single whole.
